But Then...I Go To Primary!

All week long I am confronted with negativity on social media sites. I suppose this is the case with many of us to some degree. If we chose to focus our attention on it, we might easily feel that the world is coming apart at the seams. Sometimes I begin to feel this way myself...but then I go to Primary! I listen to the children sing. I look into their eyes. I hear them pray. And I quickly find, week after week, that all is well in the world. I am each week filled with not only hope, but assurance that all is and will be well. These children who are very soon to be our missionaries and leaders in the church and in the world are not only full of wisdom, but they also know where to look for true peace in this world!

In both Jr. and Sr. Primary today as we focused on stories and events from the scriptures, the children (as usual) did much of the teaching! They know the stories from the scriptures so well and are so willing to help tell the stories. Today one of the events we discussed was the Savior's visit to the American continent after his resurrection. We talked about about how there had been a great destruction in the land and thick darkness for days. I asked the children to think about how the children at that time must have felt. How frightening that must have been for the children! We then talked about the events which are related in 3 Nephi 17 when the Savior of the world "took their little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them." (3 Nephi 17:21) I asked the children to describe what they thought the children must have felt in their hearts then. Sam answered so simply. "Peace" he said.

I've been pondering on this today.

We then talked about how Jesus  "spake unto the multitude, and said unto them: Behold your little ones.  And as they looked to behold they cast their eyes towards heaven, and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of heaven as it were in the midst of fire; and they came down and encircled those little ones about, and they were encircled about with fire; and the angels did minister unto them. (3 Nephi 17:23-24)

"Behold your little ones" the Savior said. I've been pondering on this too.

Each week in Primary, I have the opportunity to behold our little ones. The things I learn from them are so simple and so deep. The more that I pay attention, the more I am sure that if we will keep our eyes on our little ones and learn from them...even as we teach them diligently...we will indeed find a world full to the brim of peace and hope for all that lies ahead.

No wonder I leave Primary each week with a big grin on my face! Primary truly is one of the happiest places on earth!
